When it comes to cats, there are specific things that must be done in order to keep them healthy and happy. While cats seem to have a very finicky personality, they are really much more low-maintenance than they seem. They don’t need to be walked like dogs do, they usually don’t make too much noise, if any at all, and they are also usually pretty clean overall. Cats are actually a great pet to have around for some extra snuggles, love, and some much-needed companionship.

Firstly, the most important aspect of caring for cats has to do with their litter box. To a cat, their litter box is a vital part of their existence and must be treated as such. This means that they prefer to have their litter box cleaned as much as possible, and smelling as fresh as possible. Make sure to scoop out your cat’s litter box several times a week, if not every single day. And, no matter what, completely change out the entire litter every month or whenever it starts to smell rancid. Make sure that the litter box you have for your cat is big enough for them to sit in comfortably, and also make sure there are high sides to the litter box, so that your cat can clean their paws, and also, so your floor stays relatively clean.

Another aspect of cat care includes play. While most often overlooked, cats also need playtime just like dogs in order to be happy and healthy. This can include various cat toys or simply playing with your cat using your hands, keys, or anything else they might find interesting. Cats have a wild playful streak and it is best when they utilize it. Lastly, food and water is imperative to the health of your cat. Make sure their water is fresh and clean and that their food is fresh as well. The good thing about cats is that have great intuition about what their body needs, so put out fresh food once or twice a day and let them eat at their leisure. If they don’t start eating right way, take that as a sign and put their food back until a later time when they might be hungry.
